College is a busy time in itself. Reading books, writing papers, and passing tests can keep your stress levels high. Add pregnancy to that, and your emotions could be over the top.

Here’s the good news: according to Title IX, your school must accommodate you. They cannot discriminate against you because of pregnancy, childbirth, or pregnancy-related health conditions.

Your Rights as a Pregnant Student

If you are a student at the University of Louisville or another federally supported school, the college must follow Title IX regulations

Some of your rights as a pregnant student include:

  • Accommodations for your health and safety (such as avoiding hazardous substances)
  • Modifications to your physical environment (such as accessible seating)
  • Extending deadlines and/or allowing you to make up tests or assignments
  • Providing remote learning options
  • Modified academic responsibilities

Your Rights as a Student Parent

The Women’s Center at the University of Louisville supports The Student-Parent Association (SPA), which assists student parents. The SPA offers support, services, and community resources for all student parents pursuing a college education.

Their support includes childcare, housing, academic, and social and professional connections. They are dedicated to helping student parents succeed.

Helpful Tips

  • Ask your school for help.
  • Keep notes about your pregnancy-related absences and interactions with school officials.
  • File a complaint if you feel your school is discriminating against you or not complying with Title IX.
